Hakluyt was Oxford University's first professor of modern geography, as well as being an influential promoter of overseas exploration. Although a member of the clergy, his first love was always exploration, and it was in this, rather than religious texts, that he concentrated his study.

Russian-born American Immanuel Velikovsky was a physician, but made his mark on the world as a historical author, publishing many books that challenged the hitherto dominant theories of the day. Whilst much of what he said has been debunked, som eo fhis pronouncements were subsequently experimentally verified, and he deserves his place in history for at least trying to make people think about the world order.

Best known for his flamboyant film fantasies, Federico Fellini picked up four oscars in a long career as a director. Critics praised his films for their blend of realism and satire, and his style is sufficiently unique that similar films are known as "Felliniesque".

Born "Alice Josephine Pons", Lily brought something new to the stale New York opera scene, and was almost single-handedly responsible for saving the Met from bankruptcy during the Depression. She was also a popular singer and appeared in several movies in the late 1930s.
