Ibn Khaldun was primarily a scientific historian. His histories of the world took pains to explain events, rather than simply to record them. He was therefore a pioneer in the philosophy of the study of history, and many of his writings were and are insightful for generations to come.

Russian-born American Immanuel Velikovsky was a physician, but made his mark on the world as a historical author, publishing many books that challenged the hitherto dominant theories of the day. Whilst much of what he said has been debunked, som eo fhis pronouncements were subsequently experimentally verified, and he deserves his place in history for at least trying to make people think about the world order.
